Pursuant to the December 2021 Attorney General Guideline "Promoting Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring," the Neptune City Police Department is committed to doing all that we can to hiring staff who reflect the community that we serve.  See N.J.S.A.52:17B-4.10.  2020 Census Data indicates that Neptune City's population is 66% White, 14% Black, 14% Hispanic, and 2% Asian.  As of December 31, 2021, the Neptune City Police Department had 19 Sworn Officers: 79% were white, 5% Hispanic, 5% Asian and 11% were two or more races.  We currently have one female police officer.  Through job fares, such as the outreach event held by the Monmouth County Chiefs of Police at Brookdale Community College, and community and faith based events, we will continue to strive to enhance our efforts to seek diverse applicants to join our police department.

Eligibility Criteria for Police Officer Applicants

The general qualifications for employment with the Neptune City Police Department are:

  • Must be a resident of New Jersey and a citizen of the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Shall have graduated from high school or possess a General Equivalency Degree (GED) and an Associate’s Degree or 4-years active-duty military service.
  • Ability to perform all the tasks and duties of a Police Officer.
  • Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
  • No indictable criminal history conviction and of good moral character.
  • The Borough may require a valid PTC certification, Alternate Route certification or a Special Officer Class II waiver eligible certification.
  • Have successfully passed the police officer’s entry-level written and physical examination administered and or approved by the Monmouth County Chiefs of Police Association.

During the hiring process, a comprehensive background investigation will be conducted.

Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants are required to submit to:

  • Medical examination
  • Psychological examination
  • Drug screening

Salary and Benefits

  • Probationary Salary is $55,690.50
  • 12 hour Pittman schedule
  • 14 paid holidays
