Certified Copies of Vital Records

Birth, Death, and Marriage Certificates
Fee: $15.00 per certified copy

Certified copies include the raised seal of the issuing office and are considered legal documents.

To request a certified copy of a vital record, you must provide:

  1. A completed application with all information filled out correctly
  2. A copy of your proof(s) of identity
  3. The required fee of $15.00 for each copy requested
  4. Proof of your relationship to the person named on the record
  5. A marriage certificate, if a name change occurred due to marriage

Marriage License Applications

Please note: An appointment with the Registrar is required to apply for a marriage license. Walk-ins cannot be accepted.

The Borough does not perform marriage ceremonies.

To apply for a marriage license, you must have:

  1. Proof of identity
  2. A valid driver’s license, passport, or state/federal ID is required. Expired identification cannot be accepted.
  3. Proof of residency for one applicant (If either applicant is a New Jersey resident, one person must be a resident of the Borough of Neptune City. If both applicants live out of state, the couple must apply in the municipality where the ceremony will take place.)
  4. Social Security number (* This is required by law and will be kept confidential. *)
  5. One witness, aged 18 or older
  6. The $28.00 application fee
Waiting Period

Once the application is submitted, there is a 72-hour waiting period before the marriage license can be issued. After that time, please call the Registrar’s Office to arrange pickup.

Important: A marriage license is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued. Your ceremony must take place within that 30-day period. We strongly recommend confirming your ceremony location and wedding date before beginning the application process.

After the Ceremony

Please refer to the file: “Instructions for Managing the Processing of Your Marriage License.”

When completing the license, please be extremely careful. The State of New Jersey will not accept any corrections involving strikeouts, scribbling, or white-out.

Certified copies of the marriage certificate may be obtained from the municipality where the marriage took place.
