Deductions

Application forms for all of the following deductions are available in the Tax Office.

Senior Citizen Deduction

There is a Senior Citizen deduction of $250.00 for property owners over sixty five (65) years of age. Your income may not exceed $10,000, but Social Security, certain government pensions, and Railroad Retirement are excluded from this figure. Income verification is required annually for the preceding year, and proof of age are required.

Disabled Persons Deduction

Disabled Persons may be eligible for a $250.00 deduction. Permanently Disabled Individuals must provide proof of their disability. Income may not exceed $10,000 a year, but Social Security, certain government pensions, and Railroad Retirement are excluded from this figure. Income verification for the previous year is required annually.

Veteran Deduction

Veterans or their Surviving Spouse are eligible for a $250.00 deduction. Veterans must meet the following requirement as of October 1st of the pretax year. Veterans must be honorably discharged with active wartime service in the US Armed Forces. A copy of your DD214 is required. You must own or partly own the property that the deduction is claimed for and you must be a resident of the State of New Jersey.

Surviving spouses must be a resident of New Jersey and have not remarried, have proof that the deceased veteran was a resident of New Jersey at the time of their death, and own the property that the deduction is claimed for.
